Todd A. Raffensperger
I've decided to start a topic to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the duel between the HMS Hood and the German battleship Bismarck, in May of 1941.
Davejb
There is actually a Hood Association here in the UK, there were three survivors, but there was a forth member of the crew who was,nt able to sail due to being transferred shortly before she sailed ,for officer training, and that was Jon Pertwee the actor who played the third Doctor Who on BBC TV. One of my dads second cousins was killed on the Hood, Frederick Bullock,(I think that was his name), he did,nt know him that well but I think other members of dad,s family attended a memorial for him.

Todd A. Raffensperger
Some good interior shots. One is the admiral's dining room, and the other is the Admiral's cabin. It's good to be the Admiral!

Davejb
That could be him D, I thought his name was just Frederick as my Dad called him Freddie but that could just be what the family called him. I did,nt know he was from Guernsey though, but I suppose part of his family could have moved there which is why Dad hardly knew him I,ve just checked on that crew list, theres three sailors with that name, and one of them is from around the Nottingham area, and his name is Edward, so he would have been called Eddie, I,m wondering if I have the name wrong rather than Freddie it was Eddie, plus he was 19 when he was killed which is more nearer my dads age at that time,he was in his mid to late twenties and a lot of my dads family come from the Norfolk areas and a bit further up, that makes more sense to me, but I have no way to check any of this as all my older relatives are gone now. Todd A. Raffensperger
Of course, at least some pics should be posted of the Hood's famous adversaries, the Bismarck and the Prinz Eugen.

DAK D
On this day 24 May 1941 HMS Hood was lost during the battle of Denmark straight and out of 1418 crew members, only three men survived. http://www.hmshood.org.uk/crew/database/ROHGalleryAll.php They shall not grow old, as we that are left grow old Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn At the going down of the sun and in the morning We will remember them.
