Don't know for sure, but it looks like a kind of footlocker.

If I am correct, there are invasion stripes painted on the lid, what sugest that it is used by an US G.I.

Correct me if I am wrong, but commonwealth forces did not use invasions stripes on theire equipement, right?

I know there is a book that tells everything about invasionstripes.

Don't own it my self, but I do know it was published a few years back.
This can tell you to which unit the GI belonged and may be the time frame he landed in Normandy!

These stripes were only used for the D-day invasion!!!!
