On 5th June 1944, at about 2230-2300 hrs, , my uncle, FO John Reid RAFVR, and his Observer, FS Ray Phillips, left from Manston Airfield in their Mosquito FBV1 of 605 ( County Of Warwick ) Sqdn, along with two other Mosquitos of the Sqdn, their mission was  to attack AA and Searchlight Positions round the Caen landing area....they arrived there just after midnight.....

This is the page of his logbook from that night....they were all VERY proud of the part they played....:)

Stay up and raise a drink to them mate, the spearhead of the invasion. Not much comfort knowing his end,but at lest he would live to see the dawn.

Always remembered, they gave their tomorrow's,soldiers, sailors and airmen all.

I already did, just about the time they took off...a wee half then off to kip.

He was really quite concerned about the guys round Caen, as you can see from the letter he wrote home a few days after D Day ( by this time the Sqdn was on Home Defence, aka Diver Patrol) .
