German Tropical Hate Belt

DAK D

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

Here is one of my tropical belt and buckle sets, it's a very interesting set as it has been used as a hate belt. In most cases these were just taken from a German POW and the allied soldier would put what he wanted on it. However, it looks like this set was taken from someone who did not live to tell the story.

The buckle is a really super example and it looks like it could be a Gustav Brehmer? (One for Lenny to look at?)

This is a very thought provoking item and there is a thread on the Afrika Korps forum about these belt sets, but I can't find it right now.

Looking nice, very little wear on it...

looks like a GB to me, normally their maker mark is here, but is often very lightly stamped.

Generally GB's are date stamped under the prong bars like this...

I've got a GB40, a couple of 41's and 42. I'm quite partial to tropicals, x7 Heers and one Lufty. :)

Hi Lenny,

I already checked those areas on the buckle and it does not have any visible markings,

This one flew out of the nest without a stamp, but It sure looks like an early Gustav Brehmer. :D

An update ....

The suspected Gustav Brehmer next to an GB 1940 made one and the olive shade is slightly different, but the buckles look the same to me?

Hi All,

Here is an update the non marked buckle has a date and GB40 marking on it. The right light and persistence has confirmed that this buckle was as suspected all along and I am happy :)

I think I might have a tropical belt and buckle fetish :D
