Norrie
Just spent a day at the above museum,. and loved every penny of the £6 it cost to enter. wayyy too cheap IMHO, The wee shop at the entrance is full of things to buy, models, toys, clothing, inert ammo, old guages etc etc...and not badly priced either. It's very easy to get to the museum, just 5 miles off Junc 44 of the M6...takes about 10 minutes from the motorway, and well signposted. The internal displays are amazing, and it houses one of the best collections of die cast aircraft models I have ever see. Lots of displays in each room too. Uniforms, gear, engines, Ejection seats, and also an Air raid shelter, and a machine gun emplacement. Outside, the aircraft are well looked after, with a couple you can actually get into , the Canberra, and the Sea Prince, and the best bit, is the Vulcan, it sits a couple of hundred yards away from the main museum, and has it's own dedicated guide, who is VERY knowledgable on the aircraft, best bit?? you get to go inside the Vulcan...what an experience. The little snack bar at the entrance is great for a coffee and a biscuit, but for a main meal, the Stobbart Cafe at the airport ( 500yds away) is fantastic, food was ace. Well worth a day here, so much so, we are back next week. http://www.solway-aviation-museum.co.uk/
