Excellent topic to start with Lenny.
Got this one in the other week. A wellworn Panzer Schirmmutze. Just how I like them!

Cheers
Erwin

Here's another one of mine. A nice, in Belgium privately made, Artillerie SchirmMutze. Also in worn condition. This one came with it's tunic, but I only bought the cap. Still regret that!!! Grrr>:(. Nonetheless a very nice cap. I use it for my Stug Commander display:D.

Cheers
Erwin

I no longer collect German TR items but I still have a few bits and pieces kicking about at home including some tropenhelms.

First up is an Italian M1928 2nd pattern reissued to the KM with the variant shields and property of the German Navy acceptance stamp.  Ken N shows a mint example in his book on German Helmets and most you see are unused and were found on Capri in the 1970's.

Superb, I love Tropenhelm. I've had a few over the years, but only one at the moment...

Thanks Lenny, I have had quite a few over the years and I still have four.

Here is another Luftwaffe example, made by Clemens Wagner.

Heer 2nd pattern in used salty condition.  I have in the past owned both Green and Tan first patterns which I have sold on but this was my first tropenhelm and I still have.  I probably paid too much for it and when I eventually sell it I'll probably lose money, but its given me many years of pleasure.

The first cap looks like a bergmutz with later added insignia.

Yes it does but is an m43 (no padding and longer peak).

Some detail of the Heer 1st pattern Tropenhelm. Since the leather edging is gone, gives us a chance to see a little of the cork construction. I hope to replace that repro strap with original at some point. I realy should die it dark gray though(the repro strap that is).

These are great, I really miss my Troppenhelms, the first one I got was bought by my dad in Petticoat lane, London for £5.00, with both insignias and first pattern construction, two more bought for £20.00 each much later on , one Luftwaffe the other had KM insignias, I nearly bought one that had SS insignias but it was too pricey for me at the time £60.00, did,nt earn that much money in early 70s straight from school, regret that now, even more seeing I have none left, I nearly bought one last year, 1st pattern with no leather brim or chin strap or insignias, but they wanted £80.00, there was too much work involved to repair and add and the cost, so walked away, a few weeks later I found a complete leather brim on a really torn up tropenhelm , could have kicked my self
