Norrie
Hiya, Just got this from @DAK D, a cracking helmet that I love...:) Now, we have been chatting as to why it would have been painted internally....It's been like that in the 30 years that Dak has owned it. So, after a chat about it, we decided to ask you guys here what's going on here..... The strap ( just noticed ) has three little bits of paper sewn into it, never seen that before,...one has the numerals 58 on it..one has what looks like a 10, both written in pencil....its also a type I have'nt seen before, the main part of the strap is a thick canvas. The liner is a CCL dated 1943. BTW, managed to get a "reasonable" camera, phone has been kicked into touch...:) Pics below chaps...thoughts please??
Davejb
I think these bits of paper were part of the original stores size markings, it was easier to look at the label rather than checking inside the helmets, when issuing to a lot of troops all at once
DAK D
Hi @Davejb, I agree the paper tags are stores labels on the chinstrap. D
