Desert Rat
Great Maps Fred/ Paul....It gives us a good idea of how these so young Brave Men under the orders of the Generals many miles behind the Front Line could see the start & the eventuality of the battle. What the soldiers were all confronted with and what they had to face( as the Generals had spoken " Just walk slowly towards the enemy lines, have a cigarette, take your time..ALL the enemy will be destroyed by our seven day bombardment of their front line, (even with over 1, 500, 000 shells pounding the German Lines) all the barb wire defences will be obliterated , you will have the victory over the Hun" ...Little did they all know....especially on the morning of July 1st 1916..what they would have to endure all that the enemy poured down on them...The Battle was lost to the Brave young men of the British Army..,, So many killed, blown to pieces and lost forever in the fields of France!
