Daddypaw
Generally my military collection has been limited to 20th century pieces but recently I had the opportunity to pickup this Enfield bayonet. Being a novice in 19th century weaponry the markings have me a little stumped. Especially the punch marks. Any help would be great.
Davejb
I believe this is a 1856 sword bayonet, made in Britain but used by both the North and South in the American Civil War, those markings do not relate to any of those that I can find in the Enfield catagory .The G would or should relate to a Royal cypher but I cannot find it,the impressed dot marks are not common to British bayonets, nor the number 9. I,m wondering if this piece has been reworked whilst in America
