M1916 with writing on liner pads.

Recently I posted a process that was used to remove recent aerosol paint from an original WW1 camo finish, without degrading the original paint.

The following images are of that helmet: #1 & #2- Right & left side views.

#3- M1891 pickelhaube chin strap.

#4- Manufacturer's ink stamps inside rear rim.  "64"   "AS" (?)

#5- Manufacturer & size stamp "E.T.64"

#6- "-VFW 18-" over "(119)"  VFW is the Veterans of Foreign Wars groups that are in every US city.  My research found that VFW post 18 was in Kansas City, Missouri and closed 2008.

#7- Detail of one of the 3 liner pads. "1917 Berthold Weschner, Berlin SW68".

#8- Inside view, 3 pad liner. There are 2 different names: "A. Raileh" and "Terner II" or "Werner II"  Very hard to read.  One pad has a lot of faded writing on it that is almost impossible to read.  At one point I thought that I could decipher "Clarke M Werner...Tex...France...Sept 18"  Could be the US soldier who brought it back was Clarke Werner, from Texas & served in France in Sept., 1918.   I'd like to find some place that can scientifically restore the writing.  A German M16 helmet captured in France, then to Texas, then to a VFW in Kansas City, MO, then to Redding, Calif. (my uncle inherited it there)??  Now it's in Spokane, WA with me.  That much I know.

This has nothing to do with German Helmets, but my sympathies & prayers go out to our friends across the pond after this terrorist attack.  God bless you.
