Afrikakorpsrat64
I don't normally refinish helmets, but if it is in quite poor condition and doing so preserves its history well, I cant pass up an opportunity to give it a try. I hope I of done my M27 justice. I do feel quite happy with how it turned out. Here is my restoration in pictures. I was able to reuse the original liner pads and chin strap hardware. Getting the right paint shade and the rivets were a bit tricky. If I had an air brush, I could have mixed my own paint. But I am very happy with the results. The badge is a reproduction, I am still searching for a period one, I see cap badges but no helmet badges. Wonder what they did with them all when they made the helmets into civil service?

Desert Rat
Yes I thought that was why...really didn't know you could buy any paint in a aerosol spray that can go in an oven, the only paint I used when spraying cars for the oven was two pack. I am looking for an original WW2 MK 2 Sten mag....with original paint as when I bought it, I gave my mate in France the original mag...and he bloody lost it....! Thanks Tony...Very best to you....Ian
Afrikakorpsrat64
Yes Ian, I actually did the bake thing from a suggestion by someone on the helmet restoration page on FB,, I figured I would give it a try. I am happy with the results as the paint is much harder and feels more factory finish like.
