A WW2 Autograph Book. ( Dunkirk)

Norrie

Recommended Posts

Hiya, Got two wee autograph books last year at a car boot sale for £3 the two!!! I bought them because they were setup by a brother and sister in Auchterarder in Perthshire... not far from where I live..I didn't really study the autographs at all, just the names and addresses on the flyleaf...so...imagine when i got home and had a proper look to see there were a few Dunkirk guys in there too...:) I've not shown them all, as some are a tad un PC as todays youngsters would think...BUT, it was a different time, and a whole set of different circumstances...

You'll see a couple of German autogrpaphs...they are from POW's held in Cultybracken Camp near Comrie ...:)

Enjoy chaps....:)

Must admit, its superb aint it...?? Their are a few more, one is even better.....Bit like the galligraphy I was trying to learn at school, but not as good...def a bit "gothic" eh?? :)

Again, I cannot understand why folks let stuff like this go, particularly as the McIntyres are fairly well known in Auchterarder, ( learnwd about them on a facebook page dedicated to the area) they ran the local butchers shop, and well quite well off too...:) seemingly, their is still some of the family living in the area...:)

Yes Norrie,

Superb writing ( I dont know the correct word) but I think many educated people in those days who could afford a Public School learnt to write like that.

Unbelievable why they should throw these incredible items, mementoes, drawings away and especially of their own family...I am lost!! Seems like a good local family as well, maybe the younger ones of the family decided to throw the lot....see if you can find any more items, knock on their door?

Thanks for all this super info and Best Wishes to you & your family....Ian/ Desert Rat

Hi Ian, Yep, am getting some great feedback from a FaceBook page dedicated to the village..Seemingly, the McIntyres were a well know family in the town, they had the local butchers shop..the house is still there, tho, the name has changed... and someone is going to contact the owners to see if they know anything....and the "Germanic" autographs, were from POW's kept at Cultybraggan POW camp, only a few miles away...no idea where they were captured, be it Dunkirk or Norway...my bet would be Norway....:)

Hello Norrie,

Good to hear this update on this family and the clan, surprising how information comes back to us from different sources. Well very good luck with finding out more info and we look forward to seeing more. Yes probably POW'S from Norway I reckon as it's pretty close to Scotland...hope they liked the Haggis...?

Very Best to you....Ian

Wee update...Got an invite to Cultybraggan POW camp on the 10th Feb, to let them see the books where the Germans were held......they asked for copies..they are hoping to research the names....told them no problems...as long as I can get a mooch about the camp...so, we agreed....LOL...:)
