Can you help me on this one. It may not be WW2, possibly Korea or Vietnam. Was a gift from a good friend. Any help on a date of Issue would be great. It still works(makes noise/emits sound when batteries are installed and cranked.

TA-312 Field Phone. The analog, 2-wire, battery operated TA-312/PT replaced and will interoperate with the World War II and Korean War EE-8 field phone. The rugged and reliable TA-312 was used from the 1950s through the 1980s before being superceded by the TA-838 analog field phone.

Type into Google Tony....you will find al the answers and a manual.
Best wishes...Ian

Hi gentlemen.

One other note. There is another field telephone previous to TA-312/PT but it could be easily confused as they are nearly the same except for the auxiliary voice socket and EXT/INT switch. See comparison between to models here:

https://www.worthpoint.com/worthopedia/vietnam-army-field-phone-ta-312-pt-ta-74776832

Before to design TA-312/PT or to improve TA-43/PT in order to to allow the TA-43 / PT to be reused under the same conditions as the TA-312 / PT, an accessory item was designed that could be installed on the TA-43 / PT and had the voice socket and the INT / EXT switch. See the next link:

http://navysurplusarmy.com/u-s-army-military-surplus-ta-43-pt-with-ta-312-kit-signal-corps-field-phone-radio.php

In Spanish Army, TA-312/PT there were employed by SIgnals units since its arriving as part of the known as "Programa Americano" circa 1985 as field telephone of comms. stations shelters and telephone subscribers terminal until year 2001, more of less, when digital sistems were adopted and HF radio sets (AN/GRC-142 and 122), multichannel radiolink sets (AN/TRC-145, ANTRC-151 and AN/TRC-113 and AN/TRC-152 repeaters), Terminal, Telegraph (AN/TGC-30 and AN/TSC-58), Manual telephone Central office (AN/TTC-23), Communications Patching Panel (SB-675/MSC), and Communications Operations Center (AN/MSC-31) were withdraw from service.  Perhaphs many of the TA-312/PT were keep in use with SB-22 until several years ago with superb norwegian field telephones TP-6N.

Regards.
