Richard Auld
Guys, As far as I know these have never been published, they were on a memory stick that was discarded and ended up in a recycle centre, I like to save history so here they are. The Mercians were a part of 7 Armoured Brigade The Desert Rats. These pictures appear to be from Iraq, most likely Telic 7. The lads are obviously from Mortar Platoon! No comms no bombs?!
val
The radio system looks like Bowman to me. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bowman_(communications_system)
Richard Auld
Yes it's Bowman, at that time not very good as I went to Telic 8 as part of Bowman System Support Team, moving around the AO distributing software patches and 'work arounds' to try and make it function better. I don't know now if they have fixed all the bugs but after 11 years I would like to think so! Edited March 13, 2019 by Richard Auld
kriegsfunker
Are these cryptographic, frequency-hopping units?
Richard Auld
There was or is I believe the capability for frequency hopping but it was all we could do to get it functioning with all callsigns on the plan. It was used as fixed frequency and encrypted. Who knows what they are up to now I left the service in 2008.
