Nice cross, I missed a double stamped cross the other day (summer), it was similar looking but I only got a quick look as the bloke that bought it wouldn't let me have a proper look, very competative here on the flee markets, big pissing contest mostly!

Nice little Saxon Bar consisting of Saxony's Friedrich August Medal in Silver on war ribbon and Hindenburg Cross.

The Friedrich August Medal was awarded for Meritorious Service to NCO's and enlisted ranks. During war it was Saxony's equivalent of the EK II.

If awarded during peace time the ribbon was yellow with two outer black stripes and a slimmer black stripe running down the middle.

A Bavaria first bar, consisting of Bavarian Military Merit Cross 3rd Class with Crown, the crown being for a single act deemed of exceptional bravery or as a second awarding. And Iron Cross 2nd Class.

I say Bavaria first as the Bavarian MvK us mounted ahead of the Prussian EK II.

Mike like the ribbon wear again on the last one near the ring. Hard/expensive to fake , especialy if you get it wrong!

Started out as silver in 1894 until the start of the war at which time the silver content got less and less until they were finally made in silver plated war metal (zinc)

I really wish the pictures would appear in the order I choose instead of randomly. :(

I think I may have misspoke, Prussian War Aid medal more then likely. It's a 1 piece medal right? The center disc's are not separate pieces or are they?

Hello Mike,

Exactly right just a one piece medal, I know nothing about medals and I am glad you are on MCN with the other medal specialists to assist and help us with our buying and finding out if they are original or not?.....as it is today so may well made replicas....which we can all fall for and buy, then lose out!

Thanks for your kind help and Best Wishes......Desert Rat/ Ian
