A Quite Big Decision...

Norrie

Recommended Posts

Over the last few weeks, I've been churning over in my head, what to do??

I started collecting in summer 2016...and 3 years later...!!!!! ( is that all) Have decided to "cull" my collection...its taken over my attic and my spare bedroom, and to be honest, causing a wee bit friction in the house....:)

I am going to now concentrate on Helmets ( UK, US and Commonweath) , Paperwork, i.e ...WW1 and 2 only, books, paybooks, letters, magazines etc ... and my meagre medal collection...I hope to build on that....

So...this will cut my collection by maybe 75%....question is....where can I download the rest..may be 100 or so Bayos, knives etc....70 or more uniforms, mainly post war...perhaps 100 diecast model aircraft....quite a bit of original ww2 webbing etc etc....some unissued..and stacks more....HELP !!!!!! I did think of doing a miltaria show...but have no clue...:)

TBH, I would love to get rid in one go....BUT, would like to know how I go about it...:)

BTW, I have no German WW 1/2 stuff,...don't know nearly enough about it...:)

I could do some pics,.,,but tbh, the attic is stuffed so, trying to make out pictures aint gonny

 be easy....:(

Hi Norrie - big decision and good luck with it! I have been doing something similar for a while now (trying to downsize a collection) and I have found it a long process. You could try shifting it as a single lot but that would usually have to come with a substantial discount in price due to bulk purchase. Try contacting local dealers and see what that might turn up. Alternatively maybe contact dealers who specialise in webbing, bayonets, etc. and see what advice they have.

I have had some success with militaria fairs but again these vary and depend on turnout (Dallas Dig Out was good for me).

I have a few WWII and post-war US uniforms and I have found these hard to shift. There is more demand for uniforms that people might still be able to wear or if they carry good insignia. eBay may be a good outlet for uniforms too. Is it mainly British post-war uniforms that you have?

Posting stuff on the forum here would be a good starting point. Whatever is left of the FB militaria sales pages would also be a good shout. If you have a good car boot sale in your vicinity, that might also be worth trying. You never know who is gonna turn up!

I don't suppose you have any French WW1 daggers in that bayonet/knife collection by any chance? Something like the attached pic?

Cheers,

Rob.

Hi Rob, I really need to thin the collection, its taking over the house, and I do need to specialise, I want to mainly be into Allied Forces helmets...  Looks like I'm going to the Malvern show in November...with Paul aka Fred Karnos Army....got a little aviation show to do next weekend at Carlisle...only a few sellers going to be there., don't really think it will be a "buyers" market...but will test the water anyway...:)

Sorry, I don't have anything like the French Dagger...have lots of bayos and US knives, got a ww2 Luftewaffe bootknife tho....it looks a wee bit like your French knife...:)

I have a few WW2 British Uniforms, but as you say, mainly post war...I have lots of US uniforms, probobly 50-60 of them....mainly bought because they were for sale.:)..I bought them all in San Diego, over the last few years...I go at least once a year to visit family...Actually, they might be good for re enactors, they are stuffed with various insignia...:)

Only German thing I think I have left is a WW2 Luftewaffe boot knife....think their are pics of it on here somewhere...:) I got rid of my Deact K98, my replica Panzershrek and rockets, and Normandy Camo helmet, along with a M42  winter camo "Norwegian" repaint, with original single deacal last year to one collector....:)

Wish i'd known about the Para helmet...one of those has evaded me for ages...:)
