Spanish Model Z-42/79

It took me a number of years to add an example of a Spanish Model Z-42/79 to my collection so was quite pleased when this well worn example showed up earlier this week..Production started on these in 1978 and they were distributed from 1979 and seen service in to the late 1980's they were manufactured by the Trubia National Artillery Arsenal...The helmet body is in a light khaki green and was only produced in one size and they weigh in at approximately 1150 grams and were intended for general use in the Spanish military.. The real prize here is the not often seen two sided Amoeba camouflage pattern cover this particular reversible variation is thought to have been used by the Spanish Marines..
The pattern was first introduced into service between 1959 and 1960 the m59 camouflage pattern the brown amoeba side which (some sources call this rocoso or "rocky" pattern) saw considerable use until the middle of the 1980s when its use began to decline.
Spanish sources indicate, however, that limited use continued with some units until the middle of the 1990s. The pattern consists of black and translucent red & olive green amoeba shapes on a tan background with overprinted flecks of off-white,
The Spanish green amoeba side of the cover is a variation of the M-60 boscosos (woodland) camouflage pattern and saw use between 1960 and the 1970s. Using essentially the same design as the M-59, this print version consists of black and translucent red & green amoeba shapes on a pale green background with overprinted flecks of off-white.

One of these was my first "German" helmet" at the age of 7 a modelo ,until I saw a few more and realised that someone had fleeced me, then I got into buying them, being given them, and ended up with them all over the place, over 30 original German helmets, some in great shape others in ok shape, my two best helmets were an SS and an FJ all at the age of 12 and they were a lot cheaper then and I wish I had never sold them

AAAAAAAAAArrrrrrrrrrrrgggggggghhhhhhhhh........Dave,

Yes we have all made severe mistakes, I sold x6 wine glasses my Dad found in a house in Germany in 1945, which he sent back home, also many  items that were worth more than I can imagine in 2019, I stupidly sold them all .....just to buy a £15 Mobylette moped when I was 16 years old in 1965...Oh! how I regret this stupidity of mine and (against My Dad) who served from Tunisia, Libya, Egypt, Sicily, Italy, and back to Normandy for the landindings on 6th June 1944....through France, Belgium, Holland and into Germany with Monty's 21 st Army ....Sorry Dad......!!!!

Yes Gents if we only had known what we know now there are many things I would have done different I am fortunate I guess as far as collecting is concerned in the 30 odd years I have been hoarding military I have never sold an item..I have how ever traded helmets and other gear from time to time with other collectors and some of these decisions I now regret as I have not been able to replace those items...

Love it @Mark K, I have had a few in my time but never with the covers. I have had some pants and jackets with that camo many many years ago. Thanks for sharing!

Very interesting.  I did not know that the Spanish helmets had camo covers. (Why I thought that, I don't know)  Are the camo covers you show of Spanish manufacture, or were you utilizing modern Bundeswehr helmet covers?
