Gebirgsjäger Der Spiess uniform

Hello. I'm a new member to this forum.

About myself, I'm 45 years old. I'm happily married (to the most patient woman in existence) and I have 3 children from 3 to 13 years old.

I have been collecting just about anything that relates to the German armed forces of Wehrmacht Heer since the late 80's.

So tonight I have a very nice Gebirgjäger feldwebel Der Spieß uniform that I would like to share with you.
I bought the jacket from a fellow collector here in Norway about 15 years ago.
The jacket is a large size, tailor modified jacket from 1938.

About 5 years ago, I found a pair of Stone-gray M36 Gebirgsjäger Trousers in matching quality and condition. I bought them from a collector in Germany.

In 2017 I bought a near mint gebirgsjäger cap from a German vendour.
The cap is a very early private purchase tailor made cap in high quality. It has the very first type of insignia, with white thread on light gray background. I would think that this cap was made between 1935 - 37.
Typical Austrian production, with a dark-green background on the Edelweiss

The sweatband is a bit fragile, and I have stiffened it up a little bit, with strips of cardboard to help it keep its shape.

Anyway, it goes very well with the uniform, and is a almost 100% match in color to the jacket.

And I have this very nice parade belt to go with the kit:

And I bought a pair of dead mint Gebirgsjäger shoes or boots for the set as well.

Thanks Ian 🙂

Hehe and it's 3 children 🙂

So I figured, that I need a way to display this uniform properly.
I wanted it to resemble a Gebirgjäger der Spiess, wich was pictured here in Norway in 1940.

I of course just had to buy a nice mannequinn for it, and here is what I came up with:

I just love how the pocketflaps of the trousers are peeking out from under the shortened tunic

IMG_6034.thumb.JPG.989d6729aaf636f849e5c8c277223756.JPG

I added a pair of slip-ons to the early type pointed shoulderboards, denoting a Offiziersanwärter, or a Fahnenjunker Feldwebel, just like the guy in the picture.

And I chose not to display this set with anklets, and used original Wehrmacht wool socks instead, as I wanted to display the green felt-edge on the Gebirgsjäger boots.

A closer look at the Gebirgsjäger in the picture I posted first.
Unfortinently my tunic does not have the Narvik shield as this guy does. And he also sports the Fallschirmjäger badge on his tunic.

Anyway, the last update to the uniform, is the addition og Gebirgsjäger sun glasses or snow goggles. It's looking sharp 😎

I hope you like the pictures.

I think my wife would have the furniture away!!!

Thoughtful display, I wish I had the space.

Is GJ your focus being up North and all?

Thanks guys.
Well we did have Austrian Gebirgsjäger troops as the first of the invading forces here in April 1940. The up north focus is just right, as I live up north, in a small town called Bodö, just above the Arctic circle. I like collecting and focusing  at things that have a local and historic connection to the general area I live in. (North of Norway), but also things that relates as much as possible to the invation and the following occupation of Norway in general. But my main collecting focus is stuff relating to the german ground forces, the Wehrmacht Heer, with several weapons branches within this category. I do not have the capacity nor the space to collect Luftwaffe and Kriegsmarine as well.

Very good account Bjorn, which I never realised, but you have enlightened me with this information....Thank You!

Well, if you were to collect all that you wanted....Yes it would be a fantastic collection for display, but cost you a fortune....What you have now is superb!

Best Wishes....Ian
