Feuerwehr Uniform

Firemen are pretty awesome.
But members of the German WW2 Feuerwehr must be some of the best looking firemen ever.
Over the years I have collected the parts to be able to put together a complete Feuerwehr Wachtmeister set.
It consist of a blue Jacket and Black trousers - both with pink piping, helmet, belt rig with axe, boots and gas mask.
I just need to get the right mannequin for it.

This uniform is in a very large size. I am a big man, but it fits me  -with a thick wool sweater undernieth.

I suspect that the trousers here are the oldest parts on this set.
They seem to be dated to April 1914

The axe in the belt rig, has been the hardest to find item. Both in original photos and in real life. There are a lot of fireman's axes to be bought, but I wanted just the right model, that conformes with the timeframe of 1935-45
This is the best picture that I have found of such an axe, showing a little bit of details.
The picture is of from a Luftwaffe Feuerwehr department.

And the axe that I finally found - with the correct "knob" on the end of the handle.

Complete axe, with the original "Notnagel" or emergency spike present.
This spike was there for the firemans safety.  If he found himself in trouble or unable to get out of a burning building, he should drive the spike into a wooden beam, or into a brick wall, and attach his rope to it, and escape trough a window, or trough another opening, and descend to safety, climbing down his rope.

I've found a pair of nice boots to go with the set too.

The M34 firemans helmet. This one is one of the best ones that I have seen for sale - I bought it in 2008 from the WAF estand.
The helmet is in unissued condition, with the original leather neck-cover and has got a pair of beautiful decals.

The inside of the helmet. (please excuse the horrid red tablecloth in this picture)

The civil model gas mask I have for the set is issued, it has the name of the original owner painted in white letters on the bottom of the canister.
But it does not show any signs of use or wear. The original paint is 100% present, and it's in virtually like new condition. (The mask and filter inside are in the same minty condition - althou I did not take pictures of it)

The gasmasks can sometimes be found in period pictures, like here:

This next picture shows some of the firefighters in their work-coveralls. Notice the helmets they are wearing - M34 helmets, with the first type of decals - sporting a white swastika on the right side instead of the later national shield.
Also note the gas mask canisters.

Here's another novelty that I have included for this set. It's a fire extinguisher. This is proberbly a civillian household fire extinguisher of some sort, but it was so cute, that I could not let it pass, when I had the chance of acquiring it. It still has its original contents.
It's marked as follows:

"Clou" D.R.P. Trocken-Feuer-Löscher

The fire extinguisher has even got a original leather suspension hemp, perfect for hanging it in the D-ring on the firemans belt.

The users manual is pretty simple.
"Unscrew the cover.
Sling / throw the contents into the fire"

IMG_6784.thumb.JPG.c7d9c630f52e26386ddd4d56f8dcbdf4.JPG

(Please excuse me for the awful background for the last pictures. Red tablecloth was not a good idea)

Best Regards
Björn

Very nice!  However, I think the British Firefighters uniforms were sharp also, especially the helmets.
