Festrako
The Bunker phones "Festungsfernsprecher" 35 and 38 were developped to fit in the german fortification. They consisted in heavy steel boxes containing the phoning system - which is akin to the FF33- and a aluminium handset. The whole phone weights 10,5 kgs and can be mounted on walls by 4 holders. It costed 173 RM Unlike the FF33, the connection with the Lb/a and Lb/b had no fast hand connectors. Connecting the phone to the line supposed to open the top cover with triangular tool and connect the wire thanks to a screw connector. Moreover, it did not have the "Prüfen" test system of FF33 (the with button) to test the bell. this can be explained by the fact that the troop was not allowed to open neither phones nor junction boxes ; this was in the scope of the fortress communication troops (Festungsnachrichtentruppen). Scheme General view Inside. The power was provided by 3 x T30 batteries contained in a separated and wired box. Handset and inside parts Handsets were in the early times built with screw and fixation for the earpad, then it was simplified and the whole protection could be screwed to the body frame. On some of them, a front plate was placed with the words "Achtung Feind Mit" (foes are listening) and "Nach Gespräch 3 mal Abläuten" (after the speack, turn the crank 3 times". The text could also be written directly on the paint. The crank turning after the speak was as for any phone at that time, to signal to the swichboard operator the end of the call. For example, here is an ended conversation bewteen Line 1 and 2 ; the clap has fallen so the operator can level it up and disconect the wire. A certain number of phones were equiped with the KM output for the Sprechgarnitur C/37 or /39. Here is an illustration with the traditionnal handset gland is replaced by the KM output. Below are the glands for the batteries and Line income. Best regards festrako
