I have a rare type 99 rifle that was sold to me by a friend who inherited it from her grandfather who fought in WWII and Korea.

This rifle is very unique.  I have not seen another one like it. All serial numbers match and the MUM is intact. So far I have three theories. 1. It was brought home from the war here to the U.S. and converted into this folding stock rifle. 2. It was captured by resistance fighers and converted. 3. It could be a prototype that was taken. Additional pictures if needed

I think you may have a rare item there, I have not seen one like it before

Certainly interesting modification with some sort of covert purpose? Perhaps insurgent use, easy to conceal but with hard hitting rifle cartridge still?
