Armchair Historian
Hi. I've had in my possession a helmet that I think is a British Mk.4. It was given to me in the late 80's by a former RFA sailor. His story was that it was given to him by a shipmate who served in the Falklands. If the story is true this helmet has gone from the UK - The Falklands - UK - Canada. Not bad for a bit of steel Here are some pictures. I have some questions I'm hoping the group can help me out with 1) Is this a Mk.4 with scrim? If not, what is it? 2) How would I put a value on this helmet? Thanks in advance. Richard Auld
Hi, for me it's a Mk5, I wore these bloody things in training and up to about 1986. A Mk 4 will have the chin strap rivet further up the base, more at the top of your ear level when wearing and the 5 has it practically on the rim. I expect the shell is marked, you can take out the lining using the press stud. Cost, they are plentiful, cheap and cheerfull items, I see them here in Germany from about €10 - 25ish? Best Rich Just seen the chinstrap hooks it is definitely a MK5.
