Postwar German Goggles

I have a very simple question about those postwar goggles, the kind that can be found from almost any dealer.

The bands almost always seem too short to attach to anything like a large cap, let alone a helmet. I know they aren't elastic, but is there any way to stretch them without damaging anything?

They aren't always post war. they did continue with them after the war but in plastic packets. They are dust goggles not to be worn over the head gear but close to the face? They are elasticated at where they join the lens but they are mostly always perished. If you are looking to alter them for display, like you say, there are enough of them about that it wouldn't break the bank, perhaps extend and swap out the elastic bits?
