Hello from France

Recommended Posts

Hello to everybody on here 🙂

My name is Didier and I am a 59-year-old Frenchman living pretty close to the German border (nearest city: Saarbrücken). As both my parents and their respective families lived in Normandy at the time of the D-Day landings and of the Battle of Normandy, I am mostly interested in 1944 Normandy operations and, accordingly, I collect WW2 British and Canadian uniforms.

Looking forward to interacting with you all!

Didier

Hello Mate,

not much going on except a spammer. most people are on FB but it is so full of idiots in general, I quit it, I am ex UK military settled in Germany, Bergen by Belsen. I collect German WW2 or anything that is military and interesting. We have a spammer at the moment, I hope Lenny might visit his site but it appears more or less abandoned. I use it it to store finds sequencialy but I am way behind in terms of posting. Don't see much point. I have asked to have edditing rights to deal with the spam, still no reply. Might be some stuff of interest to you archive wise? Enjoy.

Best

Rich

I am sorry to read that.

Hopefully the forum will get back onto its feet some day, but this is some kind of vicious circle, I'm afraid.

Thanks for your feedback, Rich!

Cheers,

Didier

Thanks, Richard! 👍

British stuff isn't really the in thing in Europe, either, which is not a bad thing as far as I'm concerned, as uniforms, although pricey, are still affordable.

Yep, but they are still drying up just like the rest. I live in a garrision area since the end of the war and you would be surprised at how little across the spectrum surfaces. Not even 49 pattern ect. Even my combats from the 80s are a stupid price, when I think how much I skipped!!! Still I always have an eye open.

The Dutch seem to have an inexhaustible supply of British and Canadian WW2 militaria. That is where I buy the stuff I cannot find in France.

Yes, I am sure that is true, there are a lot of NL searchers here in Germany, they sometimes underestimate loyalty to locals. There is enough stuff to find if you do it for fun. It must really upset them when it is still sold localy, not just NL but all the big names in Germany and EU together. I have one idiot, unknown, localy that seads all the junk shops with his old Militaria Auction House catolauges, he paid a lot of money for them but I buy them for a couple of Euroes from the junk shops and still buy militaria for peanuts? The good thing about that is that I know how stupid they are and what they will pay! Every cloud has a silver lining!

It's a sad fact of life, people just want to sue Facebook or the like... :(
