Desert Rat
Goodbye My Only Son…1914-1918. “Dear Mum”…I’ ve got to go for across waters deep lie our evil foe, shed no tears for me mother dear save them for my return to share with you, my love to hold you once more, I will be back… for I am sure No harm will befall me you know I am right For King and Country, I now fight, It wont take long to beat the Hun For we have courage our war is won ! Please Mother…let me go the boys are waiting… I have no time in hesitating. I’ve said my peace and prayed to God He’ll see us safe in Foreign paths we tread, Mother, Mother… wipe away your tears, Worry not there are no fears, Our spirits are high we are full of hope Us brave boys we will cope, Our hearts are strong, our purpose right Our goal Is “Victory “shining bright. Goodbye Mother…God Bless you too He will see us right, even tho’ we are few. Right boys let’s march and sing Let our shouts of victory ring, Throughout this land we call our home For wherever we should roam Our fight for freedom, and for peace Will never, never, ever cease… Onwards Boys, On We Go To War…! Goodbye…My Son…!!! Written by...Ian R. Bridle…3/10/1986 1
