Manu Della Valle
Here's another "Vet"!This helmet has been repainted in a lighter shade of blaugrau reminiscing of the blaugrun sometimes found on LW equipment. It's been obviously repainted and reissued and the paint it's been mixed with sand and aluminum dust (shining thru).A German friend who only collects FD uniforms and equipment has suggested that chances of this kind of paint being used on "Frontline" helmets are very, very high and in his opinion belonged to a man within a FD fighting in the Lucca/Florence/Arezzo area, where it has been found! It's a crying shame that the eagle has been almost completely gone and that the chinstrap is missing but you cannot have everything, can you? The liner is stamped 56 o one of the fingers while it's stamped 58 inside...a recycled liner perhaps? Cheers Manu
Davejb
Decal or not its a true Lufty, decent liner, textured finish, in other words a decent M40 ,with a good drawstring
Manu Della Valle
Thank you @Davejb ! These are the helmets I own and I like...straight out if the wood, untouched and with a certain provenance...I don't have many but I'm happy with them! This one is a honest-to-God Lufty lid which has been there and most likely seen action!I left it alone without adding the missing chinstrap! Major General Bil4338 Posted May 6, 2016 Major General Share Posted May 6, 2016 Agreed, it's an honest combat used lid.the decal looks like it's been deliberately scratched off per regulations judging by the rust scrapes.tons of character!
