Does anyone know what the current UK firearms ruling is for non deactivated ww1 German flare pistols? One of my brothers died a little while back and we found one in his collection today and I need to find out what to do with it. Thanks in advance.

Guest Fred Karno's Army

I personally know of a guy who got arrested by firearms with one where I am last year,he got off as he stated he didn't know it was a firearm etc,he wasn't a collector of militaria or weapons but approached a local auction house who phoned the police. It had been found in his fathers house during a clearance.Similiar story, that's all I can add mate sorry that's Lancashire.

You need a shotgun cert if I remember correctly.

You need a full firearms cert, but as its a WW2 weapon the licence is free as you are a collector, and that is the reason you give as to why you need the cert. I think it comes under Signalling devices. I think there is an exemption for on board ships or sea going boats as its a requirement to carry one at sea by Maritime Law
