Tonydm
This is my circa 1883 Lee-Metford bayonet. It is the Mk1 type 2 it was used by the british and the Canadian army's. The Canadians used it in south Africa during the Battle of Paardeberg. And it was also used during the Boer War. It was designed to fit th Lee-Metford .303 bolt action rifle which was later replaced by the Lee-Enfield No1 also .303. It's production ran from 1883-1896 but it was reported to be used up untill the 1900s. It's downside is the fact a previous owner has polished it making the markings hard to read. You can see the bend test mark which is an 'X' stamped low down on the shaft. It is 42cm long including grip 16 1/2 inches in old money. I hope my description is accurate... I suppose I'm about to find out once the experts read it. Ps all my items are open to offers... Tony
