Norrie
Hiya, well, I went and collected the helmets from Fife today, really pleased with them too. I'm posting up pics so you more informed chaps can help with information. This is the ARP messenger helmet, no date on it, and what looks like the number 3511 ? In good condition and is painted black over the original Khaki Green which can be seen on the inside..:) Pics below.
DAK D
Hi @Norrie, I think this one is good and it was an early army helmet with khaki green gloss finish. Look for a date on the liner you should find it if you look hard enough. I would think 1938/39 would be accurate. Can you do a closeup photo of the "M" please. DAK D
Hi @Norrie, I am not surprised the liner is dated 1939 and it was made by Brigs Motor Bodies a fairly common maker, but still an nice early one. ARP and Civil Defense helmets do tend to have the designation lettering on the front and back of the helmet for obvious reasons. The chinstrap has been replaced at some point in the helmets history, but it's an original and not a big deal. You have done well so far D Edited May 16, 2016 by DAK D
HetzersGonnaHetz
Wow wow wow Norrie. This item is very personal as my Grandfather, whom I called Pa, was a ARPs Messenger boy. If you ever think of selling it mate please come to me first. What a beautiful item.
