EK2 Award Document from XI Flieger Korps

So, what exactly was the 1 Fallschirmjaeger MG Bn up to in the spring of 1943 for Franz to earn the EK2? Some sort of Partisan action perhaps? Hopped on the last rubber ducky out of Tunisia? I haven't had much luck in drilling down the timeline of this Bn during this period.

Also, can anyone point me to examples of Kurt Student's signature? I presume someone signed for him or autopenned this document, as I can't imagine him being bothered with such a task. It's an actual signature and not a stamp or print.
