Can I ask that when members quote a post, they cut it down a bit, especially if it has pics. To be honest, it's not needed a lot of the time, as your post follows on so it's obvious it's a conversation. Remember you can always tag people, @Lenny by typing @ followed by the start of their display name..3 points

I made do with one, when they were for sale a couple of years back at my mates stall that i work on.The boxes are great for keeping my beer pumps spares in as well!3 points

Ok,Not strictly large ordnance but will no doubt end up in a sub forum when created? This should jog a few memories for @Davejb This has been cleaned up after a few tips from the Jeeeensy, who always looks after his pal Waffy.... German SD-2 with type 41 impact fuze. Lots of original paint left, the charge/body is actually a traing round as denoted by the hole in the bottom shown. All original parts from the arming wire to the charge.Oh,and fully inert as per all my items in the collection. Ive a few of these rascals,All made up from original parts and some restored with new paint. Will show in time. This one i bought from a pal at the Stoneleigh show after i had just sold some other items. New buyers of these should beware as i have heard of reproduction cast iron charges made in europe. Shame really as its wrecking the hobby if not declared as repro.2 points

Ship building is one of the hardest modelling projects to do IMO, Ive had to remake a model schooner twice after accidents by dropping the thing, each time the masts broke plus the rigging, the brass rail pieces and rudder, its in the loft now and thats where it will stay until I can find room for it, it stands at 3. 1/2 feet tall and 30 inches long, the ones your dad made are excellent2 points

Hi everyone, I'm loving the forum BTW, Righty then, Well, I'm 14 years of age, I live in Derby and have just began collecting a few months ago. I am very keen and enjoy looking at militaria, (and hoping I'll be able to afford it at some point). I'm going to be visiting the Newark Militaria Fair in April as my birthday is at the end of March, so I'll be able to get another nice piece.1 point

No just plain idiot, and the only reason was the lot was fixed, because I opened my big mouth and told them that you,ve either got 4 or 7 seconds before it goes off, I did,nt take into account that the bloody thing might have no seconds left!!!!!!,,, until I was carrying it!!!!!1 point

YEP, that looks like the little sucker, fair gave me the heebee geebees, I still see that guy who brought it in, he lives not too far from me, but what I find amazing is that we live in a countryside town about 15 miles from London, it just shows how inaccurate bombing could be, and this whole area was nothing but countryside during the war and the town was,nt as big as it is now, but what I did find out was that the Luftwaffe, after bombing London, did a wide circle North and then headed East, which would have placed them over our area, there was even a 3 gun battery set up on a large hill about two miles from us to catch them unawares, I,m wondering if these things were dropped because they had trouble dropping on target because of flak so had to get rid of them on the way back1 point

My favorite story? The fact that my Dad enlisted rather than wait to be drafted, and made it back from the Phillipines after the war.1 point

I think that's not so much a collection more like an obsession but a great one to look at ( must dig out the nazi belt buckle my neighbor gave me and get your opinion on it)1 point

Did you look at the post about my War Room? 90% of what you see there has been recovered in the UK, where you don't need a licence to metal detect, you just need landowners permission. The UK is JAM FULL of WW2 relics. Trust me.......I've been doing this for more than 20 years. Did you see the show 'WW2 - Battlefield Recovery' shown on Saturday nights in January on channel 5?1 point

Not only did Lenny shoot the 109 down, he ripped the panels off with his bare hands, just so he could prop it all up in the corner of his office....1 point

Thats the main problem with WAP the planning aspect is all over the place, there are modelling rooms under the grandstand but very confined, get thirty odd people in there and its crowded and hot as an oven, if its raining then multiply that by two. Never been up your way, mainly the two i.ve mentioned plus Bedford, Chatham, Farnham, and a couple of local ones1 point

If you think that one was comical , heres another, A guy and his dog came into the station, he was carrying a cardboard box that had straw inside, seated neatly in the straw was a Mills 36 grenade, with no pin or spoon and the striker had gone down!!!!!!, he placed the box on the counter and said,"I let my dog out in a field near the main road , I saw him digging and then he came back with this in his mouth, I thought I,d better bring it in so no-one got hurt!!!!!!!!!"I was gobsmacked, I said " So you drove all the way from where it was found , through the town, and just decided to leave it with us" He looked a bit surprised. After he was gone it had to be moved so we drew lots to see who it would be, guess who got the job, I picked this damn thing up in the box and very carefully started to take it out the back to the garages, My sergeant was in front leading the way and keeping the doors open, when I got outside I looked back and saw all the office staff standing at the windows with their hands over their ears. It was put in the furthest garage and then it was taped off to await BDT.My Chief Inspector turned up without us knowing, went into the garage, pulled the tape down and was washing his motor, when one of the guys saw him and stated what had happened and that he had to get out of there, he ran out leaving his car there.BDT arrived a few hours later, took it away and found out that it was live!!!!, and the only thing stopping the striker going fully down was a piece of grit, It was exploded on marshes. We think it was discarded during a Home Guard exercise and was never looked for1 point

Dave,Ive decided that your post is my fave one so far.. chuckling away here The episode of which you speak on the series was 'Butterfly Winter' loosely based on the raid on Grimsby with SD-2 bomblets1 point

Jeeezus H christ! I shouldnt laugh Dave. Knowing me ,i would have had a quick squizz at the fuze type before i legged it(if it was a 70) I will be doing a picture series shortly of each type of fuze and will show some of my collection. Should jog a few memories for you pal lol1 point

I'd expect the backs to be a little discoloured over time, also a printed trademark such as "Agfa", "Velox" or "Kodak" on the reverse.either that or an official stamp such as "Aktuelles Wehrmachtfoto", a photographical company or a handwritten annotation.have also seen ink stamped numbers as a serial no.1 point

Now your talking, I remember Danger UXB very well, although its not a film but was a terrific wartime series, I was in the police force at the time,I dont know if anyone remembers the episode when the team were confronted with German Butterfly bombs, basically a bomb cannister supported by a rod with four vanes that rotated like a helicopter rotor and drifted down to explode on contact. About a week after that was aired , some guy brought in one and just plonked it down on the police counter in front of me. he said that he had found it in his back garden. He was cutting down a large tree and half way up in a bough hidden from view there was this thing. He saw the episode of UXB and decided to bring it in. You can imagine what state my rectal passage was in while staring at this thing, we evacuated the station and closed the road outside until BDT arrived, according to them this was one of 11 that they had to deal with after the programme was seen, and it was,nt the last time that someone brought in an explosive device into the station in front of me!!!!!1 point

I would love to increase my knowledge on other eras of war, but I've got a lot of reading to do first. I've got so many books to get through such as SS: Hell on the Western Front and Hitler's Generals. Also, I'll post a pic of the cover of a book a friend of a friend is writing. They need to roll to our tune in here though.. We don't allow that nonsense. To be honest, I. ahemm.... harvested their email adresses from their last membership roster. (naughty yes) and out of 148 members in their list, 94 bounced so have probbaly either moved email addresses or whatever. Only 12 opened my email and 5 have clicked through to us. So, hey ho..1 point

Cheers Lenny, These sort of items always float my boat after the series 'Danger UXB' all those years ago. Especially pleased about the fuze grouping to be honest. Icant recall seeing a set of locking rings with such a nice crisp Lufty waffenamt stamp.1 point

Thanks guys. Scrap? SCRAP??!!!! What a cheek. Difference between the relics I've recovered, (apart from the corrosion ), and stuff you can buy is simple. Firstly, I know where every item was found and so know who used it.......what unit, and in some cases what individual. Secondly, a lot of my collection is unique. I defy anyone to go out there and buy, for instance, a sliding radio shelf from a P51B.....or how about a trigger for a Besa MG.........or perhaps a grenade discharger cup adapter for a P14.......exhaust manifold for a Mosquito night fighter.........a canopy release catch from a Spitfire........ I could go on all night! Not forgetting, the history of each item is intact. The last person to touch what I find was somebody involved in the conflict. oh.....and all the stuff I dig costs me nothing. Soapbox moment over.......and BREATHE.....1 point

Whilst digging out some of the old MCN files, found these animated GIF's that I probably used as a profile pic many years ago. Not exactly mature, but hey I found them funny.1 point
